The Devil, Redux

This is a knee-slappin’ banjoe song, to the tune of “she’ll be comin’round the mountain”

Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, on your door,
On your door!

O’th’ Devil is here t’introduce you to your monsters and your shadows, t’ let you know that your shit stinks, just like the rest of us.
An’ th’ Devil is here t’ help you name and face your fears, so’s you can be the Hero of your own healing journey.

Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, on your door,
On your door!

But you don’t want the Devil in your house!
They’ll muck about, make a mess, hump your cat, seduce your rooster,
and really do a number on all that nice furniture you just ordered from Ikea.
But everybody knows, the Devil’s not to be denied; ‘denied Devil gets nasty, begins to thrash about…
For it means to have your attention, and it knows how to get it.
The more we try to deny, the more it lashes out! Demandin’ healin’, demandin’ redress of imballances.

Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, on your door,
On your door!

The gig is up, ‘know we’re been had, it’s time to air that dirty laundry on the line!
S’nervously, y’invite that hideous beast inside your home,
And the Devil does make a frightful mess, diggin’ in them deep’n’festrin’ wounds.
It hurts! It hurts ‘real deep! You cry and weep and gnash your teeth,
For the Devil makes you see, some thing that are a part of you, you’d rather not see.
But as the Devil does this frightful diggin’ you’re sheddin’ baggage left’n’right.
For it takes a lot of energy, limpin’round with unhealed wounds – and we’ve all got ’em:
Products of mythology, what tells us we’re not worthy, to be the soul authority, of our own selves and lives.

Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, on your door,
On your door!

We know there’ll be a frightful mess, we know some precious things’ll be broken and dismantled,
But we let the devil in our house, we let them in, anyways.
Fo’ with the Devil’s destructive fires, blow fresh breezes of new life.
With them fresh airs, we begin to notice, ‘putrid stank of our unhealed festrin’ wounds…
Oh it’s that new life, that motivates us, fresh and new and clean, ‘The Devil’s fire is the cleanin’ kind, purify our soul…

Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, on your door,
On your door!

But th’ Devil doesn’t come to do our work for us, it’s only here to show the way,
We’re got to do our own work, each and ev’ry one of us.
Devil makes a mess, digs out the poison, exposes parasites we ‘been harborin’!
But the rest, the rest, the rest, the rest is up to us!
B’cause, you see, each and ev’ry one of us is the Hero of our own story,
And each and ev’ry one of us must save ourselves from ourselves
B’cause, you see, that’s true mast’ry, mast’ry of the self:
Whole and complete, autonomous be’ing, step into your power, reverse polarity, create your OWN reality.

Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
Oh when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, on your door,
On your door!

Oh you will know that it is time to do some healin’
Oh you will know that it is time to do some healin’
Oh you will know, you will know, you will know, you will know, you will know that it is time to do some healing,

So when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
So when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door,
So when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’, when the Devil comes a’knockin’ on your door…

ANSWER THE FUCKING DOOR
